The servants stepped aside and motioned silently to the door across the hall. One of the servants opened the door for Mika and led her into the dimly lit room. The room, like all the rest in the monastery, was spare of all luxury, with just a bed, a chair, and a single shuttered window. On the bed lay a twisted, contorted form. One of the servants opened the shutters, allowing light to fill the air and revealing the face of Atake Tagura, lying on the bed, an expression of absolute suffering on his face. At the sound of the door closing behind the monks, Atake's eyes opened and blearily focused on Mika. He stared at her for a few seconds, then wearily closed his eyes again. Then he spoke softly, "Mika... I'm sorry." His face twisted in pain, and he continued, "I'm finished. I've done everything I can, exhausted every last resource I had, but I can't keep you safe. Anto has the book, and I sense something is wrong in the Land of Lightning." He grimaced again, and took a shuddering breath. He opened his eyes and peered into Mika's own, tears building in his eyes as he finally said, "I've failed you, you and Chaos both."

Mika gasped at the sight of her husband. She held Chaos close to her as she walked to Atake's bed. "Atake you dont need to be sorry." She lightly brushed away some of the hair in his face, tears started to build up in her eyes as she spoke. Choas turneed his head to look at his father, he tried to reach for Atake but Mika wasnt sure if she wanted Chaos to mess with Atake right now. When she heard Anto had the book she frowned and cursed his name under her breathe, When he grimaced once again she nearly lost it and almost started crying more than what she was. She couldn't look away from him once his eyes locked on hers, she stared into his eyes and saw the sadness in them. She sat on the bed but far enough from his body so that she wouldn't hurt him. Then she saw something she thought she would never see,Atake crying?!? "Atake no you haven't. Please don't say stuff like that!"She nearly yelled that but she calmed down and wiped away her tears.Choas got free of Mika's arms, and crawled close to Atakes face. He smiled and layed down beside him.

As Chaos began to settle, Atake gasped. He clutched the bed in a deathgrip as he choked out, "Some... thing... just... happened... in the," at this he paused to choke down some air, "Earth... Country... the... b-b-b-book..."
The bed must have been glad, for the tight grip loosened as the dead man fell unconscious. Atake's blind eyes had just seen the end.

Post by Akuma Harren: the Black on Mar 29, 2010 22:06:23 GMT -5
(Even if this site is dead I want to post, god dammit)
Akuma didn't get the sleep he had wanted. His dreams, which weren't at all all that great, had ended abruptly with the unneeded feeling of dread. Akuma bolted upright, and threw the covers onto the floor. This action startled Keeto in a way nothing else could, all the little fox new, was "Get moving" and he jumped off the bed and made a sheepish growl in the direction of the door. Akuma had no idea if the fox had felt the same intense feeling as he, but he did not care. This was a feeling Akuma was all too familiar with...a feeling of absolute dread, a feeling of death in the air. The exact same, heart breaking feeling that killed Akuma's childhood, when the mane branch of the Harren had been destroyed. "No!" Akuma couldn't help but yell, as he felt the hot tears caress his cold, pale flesh. Akuma jumped out of bed, and stumbled forward smashing into the wall, not sure how to carry himself in this quick manner. Akuma regained his balance, and his fox companion jumped onto his shoulder. Akuma clutched his chest. Keeto continued to break through to his companions mind but Akuma blocked him. Akuma threw open the door, and it slammed loudly and ungracefully against the wall behind it. Akuma stumbled down the hallway. And found where the dwindling chakra could be felt. Inside the room he found two figures. The kunoichi mother whom Akuma had met several months ago, and the other, unmoving man. His life was running out...but not gone. Akuma stumbled forward, lightly dodging around Mika. Akuma's mind was set on Atake. This man...Akuma had only heard of him, never truly spoke to this great and powerful Kage, but the level of respect and love Akuma felt for this man was brotherly. Akuma had felt his fatherly and caring presence through the battle of Akado, and when Akuma struggled for ours to get this dying man to this sacred Monastery. Akuma fell to his knees beside this man now. Tears drowning his face. "No." Akuma made the words come out in a choked manner. "I wont let you." Akuma cried. "You listen to me." Akuma leaned it, clenching the mans shirt. "I have lost so much. Too much. And I know you have to. And I worked my but off on the dying hope that you would make it...you here." Akuma's grip strengthened. "You had better pull it together. Think of what your leaving behind... A wife...a child...friends...and rivals that you have shared so much with. I barely know you...but you have connected with me in a way a family could only hope to. You are a strong man. And you better not give up on us!" Akuma grabbed the back of Atake's head and pulled his head toward Akuma, making there foreheads touch. "You have to live. There is too much at stake right now. You leave now...so abruptly...and I will see you as selfish. The word may be thrown into chaos. Nobody will be able to stand you death." Now PULL TOGETHER."

The swallows dove in and out of the trees, the sun glistening on their navy feathers, the air filled with their sweet song. Their migration had brought them near the village hidden in the Mists, where they found refuge in the forests.
"I won't let you!"
In the center of a clearing among the trees was lodged a squat, long stone. Some past quake had shifted it into the open, and there it had sat for centuries, the sun baking it, soft lichens growing up the sides, making for a warm, nice bench for those fortunate enough to find it.
"You have to live..."
Upon this stone was seated a single man. He lounged back against the rock, soaking in the sights, sounds, and heat of the sun. He wore simple clothing, and his eyes were bright and carefree. This, the man thought to himself, this is paradise. He yawned a rather contented yawn and crossed his arms behind his head.
"You better not give up on us!"
Mika. The word exploded into the man's mind like a bullet. He sat up. Mika? Who...? Then the memories returned. The sudden, grim realization made Atake sick. He'd dealt with enough, he'd saved everyone over and over again. Couldn't he just go? Couldn't he just die and be free from it all?
"Now PULL TOGETHER!"
No. He knew that. He couldn't let them down. Not that they had ever really done anything to pay him back for his troubles. But he loved Mika, and they had a child. Chaos. Another name that jolted him back to reality. The man on the stone closed his eyes and sighed as the dream faded, and the pain of the real world came rushing back.
"f**k."
It was the only word he could have said. He hurt like hell, and everywhere. He doubted there was a place on his body that didn't feel like it had been treated to an acid bath. But, he had work to do.
They had been such beautiful birds....
